General Joginder Jaswant Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) became the 22nd Chief of Army Staff and commanded the second largest Army of the world from 31 Jan 2005 - 30 Sept 2007. During his tenure General JJ Singh, refined operational planning by co-opting the battle winning role of revolution in military affairs and provided focussed direction based on the ‘Doctrine of the Indian Army’ having earlier been its architect, while in command of the Army Training Command. In the last year of his service, he held the appointment of Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee of the Armed forces of India in addition to being the Army Chief. The General was appointed as Governor of the State of Arunachal Pradesh in Jan 2008 by Her Excellency the President of India and was sworn in on 27 Jan 2008.

Lt Gen K Surendra Nath, AVSM, VSM, is an alumnus of Sainik School Korukonda, NDA Khadakwasla and IMA Dehradun. The General officer was commissioned in 1 Mechanized Infantry (1 MADRAS) in Jun 1973. He is a graduate of DSSC, Mirpur, Dhaka, Higher Command Course Wing, AWC, Mhow, and NDC, New Delhi. In addition, he has attended UN Senior Mission Commanders Course at Delhi. The General Officer has commanded 1 Mechanized Infantry in 43 Armoured Brigade and 6 (I) Armoured Brigade, 5 Mountain Brigade, Lucknow Sub-Area, 18 Infantry Division and 10 Corps. As a Staff Officer he has tenated appointments of BM, 12 Infantry Brigade, GSO-1, Military Operations Directorate, IHQ of MoD (Army), SUNMO in UN Msn in Cambodia and at UN HQs in New York. The General Officer has also held appointments of Col GS in HQ 16 Infantry Division and BGService of HQ 21 Corps.

Lt Gen Anil Chait, AVSM, VSM was commissioned into Armoured Corps in Dec 73 after passing out from Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. During his formulative years he was associated with the Special Action Group of the National Security Guards, which he helped raise. He was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal during his tenure with the force for rendering distinguished service in CT Ops. He has served in the IHQ (Army) in the capacity of Col MS 6 where he dealt with challenges of age extn and subsequently in the PP Dte as DDG (Strat). He has the proud distinction of attending the US Army War College and being awarded the Medal of Excellence. The Gen Offr took over the comd of the Surya Comd on 01 Mar 2012.

Lt Gen PC Katoch, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SC, superannuated as DGIS in 2009. A Special Forces Officer, he participated in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, commanded an Independent Commando Company in North East, a Special Forces battalion in Sri Lanka, a Brigade on Siachen Glacier, a Division in Ladakh and a Strike Corps in South Western Theatre. He has served as Defence Attaché in Japan and Republic of Korea and held numerous operational staff appointments. An MSc in Defence Studies, he is an alumni of the Defence Services Staff College, SC, HC and NDC. Post retirement, he has authored some 142 articles on military, security, technical and topical issues for professional magazines and newspapers. He is online consulting editor for SP Guide Publications and Council Member of USI of India. Some 29 presentations made by him post retirement include papers presented during 2011 on, Countering Violent Terrorism, Cyber Challenges to National Security, Political & Economic Frameworks in Asia Pacific & Regional Security Post US/ NATO Withdrawal from Afghanistan.

He was awarded the Vishishta Seva Medal for his distinguished service.

He retired from Indian Army in Feb 2011 after 33 years of distinguished service. During the service, he had the opportunity to pursue Post Graduate level Technical courses in Electronics and achieved specialisation in Radars and Anti Tank Missile Systems. He had the unique opportunity of attending field level maintenance courses on second generation ATGM in erstwhile USSR and on Long Range Battle Field Surveillance Radars in France. Subsequently, he had been employed in extensive exploitation of these systems in various conditions & terrains. He has been participating actively in national & international seminars. Derek Ireson currently holds the position of Vice President, Defence & Intelligence Portfolio in the Security, Government and Infrastructure (SG&I) Division of Intergraph Corporation. As one of the five Product Centre Portfolio Groups within SG&I (the others being Public Safety, Security, Utilities & Communications and Geospatial Solutions), the D&I Portfolio Group is responsible for designing and developing high quality specialised Geospatial software solutions for the global Defence and Intelligence market. Derek started his adult working life as a soldier, joining the British Army in 1977 as a Royal Engineer. Following qualification as a Combat Engineer, Derek was accepted into 42 Survey Engineer Regiment and became specialised in Topographic Survey. Derek joined Intergraph in 1990 as an Application Engineer. Derek was appointed Vice President, D&I Portfolio in August 2011 and has held this position during the formative stages of SG&I’s new Portfolio-based organisational infrastructure as part of the Product Centre’s move to 100% Agile-based Development. Derek is now a key member of the core management team leading the five Portfolio’s.

He was a co-investigator in a project on Optical-Digital hybrid computing of DST. Joined ADRIN, DOS in 1988 and became Deputy Director in 2000. Contributed in major areas like image processing, SAR processing, Digital Photogrammetry, Computer vision. He is responsible for evolution of satellite data processing system at ADRIN. Has about 25 journal publication in various aspects of satellite data processing.

Col Sunil Mishra was commissioned into the Dogra Regiment on 10 Jun 1989. The officer has a wide operational experience having served in Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Punjab. He has served in active Counter Insurgency Operations as well as on the Line of Control during OP PARAKRAM. The officer has also served as General Staff Officer at a Mountain Brigade. He commanded his battalion on the Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir. He is presently heading the Indian Army project ‘Battlefield Management System’ at the Directorate General of Information Systems as General Staff Officer dealing with Geographic Information Systems and has presented a number of papers on GIS and related issues.

Dr S C Jain, after completing M.Sc (Physics) in 1968, joined Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory, DRDO, in 1969. Since then he has worked in various projects such as Troposcatter Communication Systems, Propagation Studies, Multispectral Scanner Airborne and Ground Segments, Optical Image Processing using Phase Conjugation Techniques, Miniature Optical Correlator using Joint Transform Correlation techniques and Image Processing Software development. During 1985-86 he was awarded Indo US Fellowship in which he has been a Visiting Scholar to University of Alabama, USA. He completed his Ph.D in 1989. He has more than 80 publications including papers in the international journals and conferences.He is life Fellow of IETE, life Fellow of Indian Laser Association and life Member of Indian Society of Remote Sensing. Presently, he is Group Director, Image Analysis Centre and Associate Director DEAL Dehradun and is involved in the development of Image Processing Software solution for Defence services. He has guided a thesis on Automatic Registration technique.

In the year 1983 on selection by UPSC he joined Survey of India as a Deputy Superintending Surveyor. Since then, he has held various positions in SOI till 2010. On selection by UPSC, Dr Subba Rao has taken the charge of Surveyor General of India in August, 2010. During his professional career in SOI Subba Rao has handled various works involving topographical surveys, fair mapping, Photogrammetric surveys, digital cartography and GIS related activities. He has also executed the survey of 540 kms pipeline for Gas Authority of India Ltd., India Ltd from Guna in M.P. to Dadri in UP, which ran through very tough terrain of the country including Chambal Valley.
